Estadio BBVA, sometimes called the Estadio de Monterrey, replaced the historic Estadio Tecnológico and opened its doors on August 2, 2015. Designed to meet FIFA standards, it hosted its inaugural match between Monterrey and Benfica. Nicknamed "El Gigante de Acero" (The Steel Giant), it has been a stage for iconic Liga MX finals, CONCACAF Champions League matches, and is a proposed venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
